Until now, if your SEABOB F5 showed a warning on the display, there was only one place to take it: the dealer. Owners and independent shops had no diagnostic tool of their own. We built one. M-JET SB DIAGNOSTIC is the world's first aftermarket diagnostic tool for the SEABOB. It works with the F5 and its derivatives: the F5 S, the F5 SR, the SEABOB Rescue and the SEABOB SD2, including the versions with the 5-blade impeller.
There are two parts. A small dongle connects to the SEABOB's CAN bus, the data line the motor controller, batteries and display use to talk to each other. The app runs on iPhone, iPad and Android and talks to the dongle over Bluetooth. You don't need a laptop.
What's behind the symbol on the display
When something's wrong, the display usually shows nothing more than an icon. The app reads out the actual messages and keeps them apart: errors that are active right now, the error memory with everything that happened before (which you can clear once the cause is fixed), warnings such as unbalanced cells in one battery, power limitation, battery messages and tripped fuses.
For the questions owners ask most, there are guided checks: low power, a battery that won't charge, the overall state of the batteries, signs of water getting in, and whether the throttle, buttons and motor respond the way they should.
Live data, down to every battery cell
Live values are grouped the way you'd look for them:
- drive, temperatures, batteries and charging
- diving depth and sensors
- device data with serial numbers, software versions and operating hours
The cell view puts both batteries side by side, every cell with its voltage in mV, plus the highest cell, the lowest cell and the gap between them. One weak cell stands out right away, well before it starts limiting power on the water. If you want more detail, record charts, for example cell voltages while charging, or motor speed, power and motor current on a ride, and export them.
Settings that used to need dealer software
The service section covers changes that were dealer-only until now. You can set or remove the power-on PIN and the owner PIN, set the maximum diving depth, change the number of speed levels along with the highest speed level and the highest start level, run the drive alignment, align the selfie camera and set the target heading. Time, calibrations and pairing a battery after a swap are in there too.
Every change is shown before it's written and has to be confirmed. Afterwards the app reads the value back, so you know it actually took. You can also restore factory settings and create a PDF report, which comes in handy when you're buying or selling a used SEABOB.
Who it's for
It's built for owners who want to know what their SEABOB is telling them, for rental operators and yacht crews looking after several units, and for shops that want to work on SEABOBs without depending on a dealer. The app is available in English, German and French.
This one means a lot to us: M-JET SB DIAGNOSTIC is the first product from our American branch, and we're proud of it.
