Can-Am Diagnostic Port Location: Where to Find It on Maverick, Defender, Outlander, Spyder and Ryker
You want to pull codes or watch live data, and now you are standing next to your Can-Am asking: where is the diagnostic port? On Can-Am machines it moves around by model line: up in the dash, under the seat or up front under a service cover. Below you get all eight Can-Am model families. Where we do not have solid information, we say so instead of guessing.
Searching for a Can-Am OBD port or Can-Am OBD2? In most cases that means the same connector a scan tool uses to talk to the control modules.
Can-Am Diagnostic Port Location by Model
| Model | Where the connector is | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Maverick X3 (2017 and later) | Top of the dash in the middle, under the center access panel (glove box lid on early models). The plug sits in a holder. | 2017 and 2018 under the glove box lid, 2019 and later under the center dash panel. |

Model by Model
Maverick X3 Diagnostic Port
On the X3 the port is on top of the dash in the middle: under the glove box lid on 2017 and 2018 models, under the center dash panel from 2019 on. The plug is clipped into a holder. Pull it out by the housing, not the wires.
Maverick Sport, Trail and Commander
Look under the dash on the driver's side, left of the steering column, near the fuse box and battery. We have no confirmation for 2025 and later models, so if yours looks different, check the owner's manual.
Maverick R
No reliable information yet, and reports vary. We will not point you to a spot we cannot back up. Check the owner's manual or ask your Can-Am dealer.
Defender and Traxter Diagnostic Port
On the Defender, pop the front hood and the port is in there. We have no separate confirmation for the HD7 and HD9. A loose plug under the hood that does not seem to go anywhere may well be the diagnostic connector. If your Defender is down on power, read Can-Am Defender HD8, HD10 and HD11 in limp mode.
Outlander and Renegade
On the G2 Outlander, pull the seat and the connector is near the battery. For the G3 Outlander (500/700 from 2023, 850/1000 from 2025) and the Renegade we have no solid information, so go by the owner's manual or your dealer. For ATV limp mode, see Can-Am Outlander and Renegade in limp mode.
Spyder, Ryker and Canyon
All three put it up front under the front service cover. On the Spyder RT and F3, open the front storage compartment first. For Spyders older than 2015 we have no confirmed location.
Separate OBD2 Connector on Spyder and Canyon
Some Spyders, depending on the market, have a separate 6-pin OBD2 connector in the same area, and European Canyon models add a red OBDII connector beside the fuse box. If you are not sure which one is the diagnostic port, check the owner's manual or ask your dealer before plugging in.
How to Plug In the M-JET DIAGNOSTIC Dongle
- Find the connector with the table above and remove the cover or protective cap.
- Push the M-JET DIAGNOSTIC dongle on straight and all the way.
- Turn the key on.
- Open the app (iOS or Android) and connect to the dongle over Bluetooth. No laptop needed.
- Pick your vehicle, then read the fault memory or open live data.
Run component tests, resets and service functions only with a stable power supply and according to the manufacturer's instructions. A weak battery causes dropped connections and misleading messages.
Cover Stuck, Plug Dirty or Corroded
- Cover will not budge: Do not pry with a screwdriver. A plastic trim tool saves the clips and panels.
- Plug in a holder: Grab the connector housing, not the wires.
- Dirt and moisture: After water, mud or salt there is often grime in the connector. Clean it with electrical contact cleaner, let it dry, then plug in.
- Green or white crust: That is corrosion, and it causes intermittent faults and dropped connections. Clean the pins carefully without bending them. Loose or badly eaten pins are a job for the shop.
- When you are done: Put the protective cap back on.
Once You Are Plugged In: Read Codes, Do Not Guess
With the dongle connected you read the fault memory of the ECM, cluster and other modules. Every code shows in plain language with its status, active or stored. If your Can-Am is down on power, the Can-Am limp mode guide is the next stop. Clearing a code is not a repair. If the cause is still there, the code comes back.
Frequently asked questions
Does a Can-Am have an OBD2 port like a car?
Usually people mean the diagnostic connector. A separate OBD2 connector only shows up on some Spyders, depending on market, and on European Canyon models.
Where is the diagnostic port on the Maverick R?
We do not have reliable information on that yet. Check your owner's manual or ask your dealer.
Does the dongle work on every Can-Am model?
M-JET DIAGNOSTIC works with all BRP vehicles, including Maverick, Commander, Defender, Traxter, Outlander, Renegade, Spyder, Ryker and Canyon. It plugs into the vehicle's diagnostic port.
Got a code? M-JET DIAGNOSTIC shows every fault code right on the vehicle in plain language, with its status and check steps.
