Doing your own Can-Am Ryker service is straightforward once you know where the differences are. The Ryker 600 ACE (twin) and Ryker 900 ACE (triple) both run a dry sump with two drain plugs on the engine, plus separate gearbox oil and separate final drive oil. The values come from the BRP operator's guide for the Ryker, model years 2021 and 2025, with oil capacity and plug type also from MY2026. Where the years differ, it is noted. Check the operator's guide for your own machine before you start.
What you need
- Engine oil: XPS 5W40 synthetic blend, or a synthetic 5W40 4-stroke oil meeting API SN or JASO MA2 (MY2021: API SJ, SL, SM or SN). On MY2026 the label reads XPS 4-stroke 5W40 synthetic, while the procedure section still says synthetic blend.
- Oil capacity with filter, approx.: Ryker 600 ACE 2.5 L (2.64 US qt), Ryker 900 ACE 2.8 L (2.96 US qt). There are 400 ml (14 US fl oz) between MIN and MAX.
- Oil filter with a new O-ring. Your dealer has the matching BRP oil change kit.
- Two new sealing washers for the two drain plugs.
- Gearbox oil: XPS 5W40 synthetic blend for general use, or XPS 10W50 synthetic or XPS 75W140 gear oil in warm weather.
- Final drive: XPS 75W90 synthetic gear oil, or 75W90 meeting API GL-5, plus a long 8 mm Allen key for the fill plug.
- Tools: drain pan, torque wrench for low and mid values, funnel, rags.

Oil change step by step
- Park the Ryker on level ground and set a drain pan underneath.
- Remove the magnetic drain plug and the secondary drain plug and let the oil drain completely. Check the magnetic plug for metal particles.
- Reinstall both plugs with new sealing washers. Magnetic drain plug: 30 ± 3 Nm (22 ± 2 lbf·ft). Secondary drain plug: 15 ± 2 Nm (133 ± 18 lbf·in).
- Remove the oil filter cover, replace the filter and fit a new O-ring. Torque the cover screws to 9 ± 1 Nm (80 ± 9 lbf·in).
- Fill with oil: about 2.5 L on the 600 ACE, about 2.8 L on the 900 ACE. Go a little under and top up after the check.
- Check the level at operating temperature as described below.
How to check the Ryker oil level
Only check it at operating temperature: per the guide, 90 °C at the oil tank, which is 5 bars on the temperature gauge. Then shut the engine off and read the dipstick within 10 seconds. Stick to that sequence, because a reading taken cold or minutes after shutdown tells you nothing on the Ryker. There are only 400 ml between MIN and MAX, so top up in small steps and bring it back up to temperature before checking again.
Spark plugs and other items
Spark plugs
BRP lists NGK CR8EB or equivalent, gapped at 0.7 to 0.8 mm (.028 to .031 in). The interval changed: every 20,000 km in the MY2021 guide, every 40,000 km from MY2025. The operator's guide gives no spark plug torque. Don't guess a number; if in doubt, have the dealer do it.
Gearbox oil
The gearbox has its own oil, separate from the final drive. The maximum is 500 ml (0.53 US qt), but the level is what counts: fill to the bottom of the level plug hole. Magnetic drain plug 30 ± 3 Nm (22 ± 2 lbf·ft), oil level plug 15 ± 2 Nm (133 ± 18 lbf·in), oil filler plug 4.5 ± 0.5 Nm (40 ± 4 lbf·in). That filler plug torque is very low, so go easy and use the right wrench.
Final drive
XPS 75W90 synthetic gear oil, capacity 335 ml (0.35 US qt). Fill plug with 8 mm Allen: 16 ± 3 Nm (142 ± 27 lbf·in). Magnetic drain plug: 16 ± 3 Nm (142 ± 27 lbf·in).
Air filter, CVT and belt
The engine air filter is a paper element. The CVT air filter gets replaced every year or 10,000 km. The CVT drive belt is replaced by a dealer or repair shop every 20,000 km or when the TRANSMISSION MAINTENANCE REQUIRED message appears, and the CVT components are cleaned at the same interval.
Coolant
XPS Extended Life pre-mixed coolant, or a low-silicate 50/50 ethylene glycol for aluminum engines. Capacity 600 ACE 2.2 L, 900 ACE 2.45 L. The guide lists the coolant change as a dealer or repair shop task.
Reset the maintenance reminder with M-JET DIAGNOSTIC
Once the service is done, you reset the Ryker's maintenance reminder with M-JET DIAGNOSTIC. It runs on a dongle and an app over Bluetooth, right at the vehicle, with no laptop needed.
With M-JET DIAGNOSTIC you do the service reset from the app and run the post-service check at the same time: read the fault memory with code status, watch engine temperature and battery voltage in live data while you bring the engine up to temperature for the oil check, and see odometer and next service under vehicle data. Always run resets and tests on a stable power supply and per the manufacturer's instructions.
If a warning light comes on after the service, see warning light on the Can-Am Ryker, Spyder or Canyon. If the Ryker goes into limp mode after battery work, read Spyder and Ryker limp mode. More on using the app on a Ryker is in the buying guide for the Ryker, Spyder and Canyon.
Frequently asked questions
How much oil does a Can-Am Ryker 900 take?
About 2.8 L (2.96 US qt) with filter, about 2.5 L on the Ryker 600. What counts is the level at operating temperature, read within 10 seconds of shutting off.
Is the gearbox oil the same as engine oil?
It is a separate oil circuit. BRP lists XPS 5W40 synthetic blend, or XPS 10W50 or XPS 75W140 in warm weather. The final drive takes 75W90.
How do I reset the maintenance reminder on a Ryker?
With M-JET DIAGNOSTIC from the app once the service is done, and you check the fault memory and live data while you are at it.
