If you ride a Sea-Doo with the new Rotax 1630 ACE 350 in the US or Canada and want more top speed, you will run into the term SCOM sooner or later. It stands for Speed Control Override Module, a part that gets around the factory speed limiter. This article explains what is different on the 350 compared with older models, and how to lift the limiter once through an app with the M-JET Speed Limit Remover.
Which 350 models this covers
For model year 2027, BRP replaced the Rotax 1630 ACE 325 with the 1630 ACE 350. That affects exactly the lineup riders in North America search a SCOM for most often:
- Sea-Doo RXP-X 350 and the limited RXP-X Senna 350
- Sea-Doo RXT-X 350
- Sea-Doo GTX Limited 350
All four share the same supercharged, intercooled 1,630 cc three-cylinder with 350 hp. From the factory, the ECU caps top speed based on the GPS signal, just like on the 2024 to 2026 325 models.
What a traditional SCOM does
A traditional SCOM sits between the GPS and the ECU and alters the speed signal for as long as it is connected. On the 260 and 300 hp models, that was the usual route for years. The catch is that the module stays in the boat permanently, wired into the electrical system, on every ride. We cover what that means day to day in our article on the downsides of a permanently installed SCOM.
With the 1630 ACE generation, the electronics changed. Riders in the US report that the old plug-in modules already stopped working on the 325 and that the ECU now has to be shipped in instead. The 350 is built on the same platform.
The M-JET Speed Limit Remover approach
The Speed Limit Remover is not a permanent module. You plug it into the diagnostic connector of your Sea-Doo for a moment, lift the limiter through the M-JET SLI app, and unplug it again. Nothing stays behind in the boat.
- Plug the Speed Limit Remover into the diagnostic connector.
- Open the M-JET SLI app and select the Speed Limit Remover.
- Lift the limiter or restore it.
- Unplug the device and you are done.
If you have been thinking about tuning, note this: the Speed Limit Remover is not a tune. There is no stage and no change in power, so no ECU unlock is needed either. Your ECU stays in the boat and never has to be shipped anywhere.
Paired once, switchable any time
The first time you use it, the Speed Limit Remover pairs with your watercraft. On that Sea-Doo you can then lift and restore the limiter as often as you like, for example before selling it or before a service visit. A second watercraft needs its own device.
Older US and Canadian models too
The Speed Limit Remover is not only for the 350. It also works on the 2024 to 2026 325 models (RXP-X, RXT-X, GTX Limited) and on the North American 260 and 300 hp models from 2011 to 2023. You will find every model year in our overview for the US and Canada. For a detailed comparison with a SCOM, read SCOM or Speed Limit Remover on the Sea-Doo 350.
More power is a separate topic
The Speed Limit Remover only lifts the speed limiter. If you also want more power, that takes a software tune with the M-JET FLASHER. On the 350, a one-time ECU unlock is required for that. You can ship the ECU to our location in Florida or in Germany, or get a replacement ECU from us that is already unlocked.
Ride responsibly
More top speed also means more responsibility. Follow the rules and speed limits on your waterway and only ride fast where it is allowed and safe.
