Yamaha EX Won't Start: Check Voltage, Relays and Cylinders
The EX does nothing at the start, or the starter cranks without ignition. With M-JET DIAGNOSTIC you get there in seven tests, because the EX has seven components you can activate.
The tests
- Battery voltage at start
- Relays and kill switch in the switch status
- Activate the fuel pump
- Activate ignition coils 1 to 3 and injectors 1 to 3
Why a system saves time
With the pump, three coils and three injectors you check all parts that affect starting in a few minutes. If one does not respond, it is the candidate. If all respond, you look in the fault memory for camshaft and pulser coil. A weak battery is the most frequent reason on entry models after standing idle, so the voltage check always comes first. On the fuel system: good ventilation, no ignition sources. The kill switch on the handlebar can corrode and stop the craft or prevent starting: its state is in the live data.
