Buying a Used Yamaha FX140: Really Check the Operating Hours
The hour meter in the display is considered of limited reliability on older craft. On the FX140, M-JET DIAGNOSTIC reads the operating hours from the control unit, split into RPM ranges.
What you see at the viewing
- Total hours and distribution across six RPM ranges
- Fault memory with all eight to twelve possible codes
- Live values at standstill: temperature, voltage, air pressure
- Model and serial number to compare with the papers
How to judge the result
Many hours below 4000 rpm point to calm riding, many in the upper range to sporty use. A clean memory is no seal of quality, because a freshly cleared memory looks the same. So also check the live values and take a test ride. On a 20-year-old craft, pump, impeller and battery belong in the check too.
