Yamaha GP1800R: Knock Sensor (Code 17) at Full Load
A GP1800R is often ridden at the limit. If the control unit reports the knock sensor there, the question is: sensor fault or real knock? M-JET DIAGNOSTIC gives you data for that.
What you look at
- Ignition timing over time under full load
- Intake air temperature (23) and engine temperature (15)
- Fault memory: code 17 active or stored?
- Condition of connector and wire at the knock sensor
How to tell the difference
If ignition is retarded under load, the control unit detects real knock: fuel, temperatures and intake are then the candidates. If ignition timing stays stable and the message comes anyway, it is mostly a wire or connector fault. If real knock is suspected, do not ride on but have the engine checked.
