Yamaha GP1800R: Unstable Idle and Starting Problems
After standing idle, the GP1800R starts badly or idles unsteadily. M-JET DIAGNOSTIC checks voltage, relays and cylinders and teaches the idle.
Check order
- Battery voltage at standstill and when starting
- Relays and switches in the switch status
- Activate four ignition coils and four injectors individually
- Teach idle and throttle valve if needed
Typical findings
After winter, battery and connectors are the most frequent causes. A single cylinder with a weak ignition coil or injector stands out especially at idle; the individual test shows it. If the throttle body was cleaned, learning helps. For all tests the engine may only run with a water supply, and on the fuel system: good ventilation, no ignition sources. In forums, stalling when the throttle is released quickly is often traced to loose injector connectors or a clamp on the intake hose.
