Yamaha JetBlaster: Engine Stalls at Idle or When Releasing the Throttle

The JetBlaster idles briefly and then stalls, or it dies when the throttle is released quickly. Owners of the TR-1 family report this again and again, sometimes without any fault code. M-JET DIAGNOSTIC shows you what the control unit sees.

How to proceed

  • Read the fault memory, view active and stored entries separately
  • Idle live values: engine speed, throttle valve angle (TPS1/TPS2), intake pressure, battery voltage
  • Activate ignition coils 1 to 3, injectors 1 to 3 and the fuel pump individually
  • Teach idle and throttle valve if the valve or battery was replaced

When everything looks normal

There are cases in which neither codes nor live values showed anything and the engine still died after seconds at idle. Then the cause lies outside what a diagnostic tool sees: fuel supply, compression or mechanics. First check battery and ground, loose connectors at coils and injectors and, after an oil change, the oil level, because overfilling costs RPM on the TR-1 engines. For all tests the engine may only run with a water supply.
