Yamaha VX1100: Unstable Idle, Engine Stalls When Docking

If the VX1100 stalls when riding slowly or docking, the electronics are often involved: throttle valve, sensors or voltage. M-JET DIAGNOSTIC shows you the idle in numbers.

The check

• Check the fault memory for ETV, TPS and APS messages
• Live data at idle: engine speed, throttle angle, intake pressure, voltage
• Activate four ignition coils and four injectors individually
• After cleaning, teach idle and throttle valve

Teach after cleaning

If the throttle valve was cleaned, the control unit no longer has its end positions matching. Learning makes up for that and often calms the idle immediately. If it stays unsteady, the individual cylinder test rules out one cylinder misfiring. A cylinder with a weak coil or injector stands out especially at idle. For all tests the engine may only run with a water supply.
