Yamaha VX1100: Steering Sensor Fault (Code 55)
Code 55 stands for the steering sensor out of specification on the VX1100. It is just a message, and a simple cause often hides behind it. M-JET DIAGNOSTIC shows you the sensor value while steering.
How to check
- Fault memory: is code 55 active or only stored?
- Live value of the steering sensor while turning slowly
- Check connector and wire at the steering area
- Clear the memory, test ride, read again
What the live value tells you
If the value changes evenly with steering angle, the sensor works and the message probably came from a sporadic contact fault. If it jumps or stays put, wire or sensor is the candidate. Moisture and corrosion are the most frequent causes at connectors in this area. Check them before you order parts.
