Buying a Used Yamaha FX SVHO: What Belongs in the Diagnostic Check

A used FX SVHO costs a lot of money and its condition is hard to judge from outside. With M-JET DIAGNOSTIC you check the control unit right at the viewing.

The checklist

• Read the fault memory completely, also stored entries
• Total hours and hours per RPM range
• Watch shifting and reverse in the live data
• Temperatures and intake pressure at standstill and, if possible, on a test ride

Negotiate with numbers

Findings in the memory or many hours in the top range are no exclusion criterion, but a negotiating argument and a reason for a closer check. Compare model, serial number and part number with the papers. With high running time, a workshop assessment of supercharger and drive is worthwhile as well. An empty memory proves nothing, so test ride and visual inspection belong too. On the 2014 and 2015 SVHO model years the timing chain is considered a weak point; it was reinforced from 2016. No diagnostic tool can detect chain wear; that takes a workshop assessment.
