Yamaha FX SVHO: RiDE, SCU and RPS Report Faults
On the newer FX SVHO a dedicated unit, the SCU, controls shifting between forward and reverse, and the RPS sensor supplies position signals for it. M-JET DIAGNOSTIC reads both.
What you check
- SCU codes 157 to 164 and RPS codes 150 to 154 in the fault memory
- Live values: shift angle and RPS signals
- Connectors and ground points at the shift mechanism
- After replacing the SCU: SCU initial learning
Electronics or mechanics?
If the shift angle in the app changes cleanly when you shift, the electronics work and the cause lies more in the mechanics or linkage. If an RPS signal jumps or is missing, sensor or wire is suspect. Several SCU codes at once often point to a shared cause such as voltage or connector. Learning does not fix mechanical problems. Only work on drive and shifting when the craft is secure. Known from forums: messages about the reverse gate (such as code 159) repeatedly had mundane causes, for example a tie-down strap stretched across the stern eyes, a slightly bent rod, the connector at the main RiDE harness, or relay and fuse. Check this by hand with the engine off, then clear the memory and read it again.
