Yamaha FX140 Won't Start, Starter Turns
The starter of the FX140 turns, but the engine does not catch. M-JET DIAGNOSTIC clarifies before parts are replaced whether voltage, ignition or fuel is missing.
Order of checks
- Look at battery voltage during the start attempt
- Check the fault memory for pulser coil (19) and camshaft sensor (36)
- Check kill switch and switches in the live data
- Activate ignition coils, four injectors and fuel pump one by one
The design helps you
On this FX, two cylinders each share an ignition coil, tested as a pair of 1 and 4 and a pair of 2 and 3. If only one pair does not respond, the fault lies in that pair's ignition circuit. If all injectors and the pump respond but the engine will not run, the speed signal and ignition move into focus. Only work on the fuel system with good ventilation. It is also known from forums that a corroded voltage regulator can cause alarm and starting problems: a battery voltage that is too low with the engine running in the live data points to it. The pump test only shows that the pump runs, not whether it delivers enough.
