Used Yamaha FZR and FZS: Hours in the High RPM Range
On supercharged models the usage is decisive. Two FZRs with the same hours can have been stressed very differently. M-JET DIAGNOSTIC shows you the hours per RPM range.
What you check when buying
- Total hours and distribution across all RPM ranges
- Share above 6000 and above 8000 rpm
- Fault memory for temperature, knock and throttle valve messages
- Intake pressure under load on a test ride
Classification
A large share in the top range fits jumps and full-throttle rides, and those strain the supercharger and clutch. That is no exclusion criterion, but a reason for a close check of the boost pressure. If the share of low hours is high and the memory clean, that speaks for calmer use. Add visual inspection and test ride to the check, and for expensive craft have a workshop assess the supercharger. On the 2014 and 2015 SVHO model years the timing chain adds as a known weak point, whose wear a diagnostic tool does not detect.
