Yamaha GP1300R: Unstable Idle, Check the Stepper Motor
The GP1300R regulates its idle with a stepper motor. If it is stiff or the connector is corroded, the speed hunts. With M-JET DIAGNOSTIC you activate the stepper motor and see whether it responds.
What you test
- Fault memory: codes 84, 102 and 103 concern the stepper motor
- Activate the stepper motor component test in the app
- Live data: engine speed and step position at idle
- Teach the idle after cleaning or replacement
Mechanical or electrical?
Audible and visible movement during the test speaks for a working motor; then the problem is more likely dirt in the air passage or false air. If every reaction is missing, check connector, wire and voltage. Because the three-cylinder has only three cylinders to supply, a single weak cylinder stands out strongly at idle. So also test the three ignition coils and injectors individually. In forums, a poor contact at the throttle position sensor is often named for idle and starting problems on the GP1300R: its live value must stay steady and be correct with the throttle closed.
