Yamaha VX with RiDE: Check Shifting, SCU and RPS
On VX variants with RiDE, the SCU controls shifting and the RPS sensor supplies position signals. If reverse gives trouble, M-JET DIAGNOSTIC reads both.
What you check
- SCU codes (157 to 164) and RPS codes (150 to 154)
- Shift angle and RPS values in the live data when shifting
- Connectors, ground and voltage at the shift mechanism
- After SCU replacement: SCU initial learning
Not every VX has RiDE
The simpler VX variants have no SCU, so the app does not show SCU functions there. On RiDE variants the live value helps separate electronics from mechanics: if the angle changes cleanly when shifting, the electronics work. Several SCU messages at once speak for voltage or connector as a shared trigger. Only work on the shifting when the craft is secure. With reverse problems a foreign object at the reverse gate is often behind it. Check it by hand with the engine off before you go to the electronics.
