Doing your own Sea-Doo 1630 ACE service pays off. GTI 130 or 170, GTR 230, GTX, RXP-X or RXT-X with 300 or 325, Wake Pro, FishPro or Explorer Pro: the oil change on every Rotax 1630 ACE works the same way, with no drain plug. A Sea-Doo tune up kit means oil, an oil filter, the two filter cover O-rings and the right plugs. At the end you reset the reminder with M-JET DIAGNOSTIC.
The values come from BRP documentation, mainly the operator's guides for the model years stated. Check the guide for your own craft; oil and plugs differ between naturally aspirated (NA) and supercharged engines.
What you need
- Oil change kit: 3 L of oil, oil filter and the two filter cover O-rings. Your dealer has the matching BRP oil change kit.
- Fluid extractor with the hose marked at 475 mm, drain pan, funnel, rags, gloves, safety glasses.
- External Torx socket and ratchet for the filter cover. Confirm the size on your craft first.
- Torque wrench and a screwdriver or bit for the engine service cover.
- Garden hose for the flushing connector.
- For the plugs: plugs for your engine, plug socket, wire feeler gauge, anti-seize.
Which oil the operator's guide calls for
| Guide (model year) | BRP recommendation |
|---|---|
| 2016 to 2018, supercharged 300 | XPS 4-Stroke Synthetic Blend, alternative 10W-40 mineral oil for wet clutches (JASO MA). Fully synthetic oil is explicitly ruled out here. |
| 2019 to 2023 | XPS 4T 5W-40 Synthetic Blend |
| 2024 | XPS 5W-40 Synthetic Blend, in warm temperatures XPS 10W-50 Synthetic |
| 2025 and 2026 | XPS 5W-40 synthetic |
Without XPS oil, the 2022 and 2026 guides split by engine: NA 130 and 170 take a 4-stroke SAE synthetic oil meeting API SN or JASO-MA2; supercharged 230, 300 and 325 need a 4-stroke motorcycle oil compatible with wet clutches, JASO-MA2 and/or API SN. No additives.
Capacity per the 2016 to 2026 guides, NA and supercharged: oil change with filter 3 L (3.2 US qt), dry engine 5 L (5.3 US qt). The dipstick has the final say.

| Flush exhaust, rinse engine compartment | after every ride in salt or dirty water | 2026 |
Whichever comes first applies. The 2022 to 2026 guides list no separate break-in change.
Oil change step by step
- Remove the seats and the engine service cover.
- Hose on the flushing connector, warm up the engine as for flushing: out of the water no more than 2 minutes, a second run after a 5 minute cool-down.
- Run the engine for 10 seconds at 4,000 rpm and stop it with the tether cord.
- Pull the dipstick, push the extractor hose 475 mm (a little more than 18.5 in) into the dipstick tube and extract the old oil.
- Crank the engine for 10 seconds with the throttle held and extract again. Repeat 2 to 3 times.
- Open the filter cover (one bolt on most models) and replace the filter and both O-rings. Lightly oil the filter ring and O-rings. If you ride in salt water, grease the cover mating surface.
- Torque the cover bolt to 9 N·m ± 1 N·m (80 lbf·in ± 9 lbf·in).
- Add fresh oil through the oil fill cap on the valve cover, the 3 L from the kit.
- Level check per the 2026 guide (written for a cold engine): craft level, hose connected, start, open the water, idle 30 seconds, close the water, 15 seconds at 4,000 to 4,500 rpm, stop abruptly. Wait at least 30 seconds; the level must be between FULL and ADD.
- Do not overfill. Reinstall the service cover and torque the screws: 2.8 ± 0.2 N·m (25 ± 2 lbf·in) per the 2023 to 2026 guides, 2.75 N·m ± 0.25 N·m (24 lbf·in ± 2 lbf·in) per the 2019 to 2022 guides.
Oil and engine are hot after the warm-up, so wear gloves and safety glasses.
Spark plugs and other items
| Engine | Spark plug | Per guide (model year) |
|---|---|---|
| NA 130 and 170, supercharged 230 | NGK DCPR8E with solid post or equivalent | 2026 |
| Supercharged 300 | NGK KR9C-G or equivalent | 2016 to 2026 |
| Supercharged 325 (2024 and later) | NGK KR9EI-8G with solid post or equivalent | 2024 to 2026 |
Gap: 0.80 to 0.90 mm (.031 to .035 in) for all 1630 plugs per the 2023 to 2026 guides; the DCPR8E has the same value in the 2019 to 2022 guides. For the KR9C-G, older guides differ, so follow yours. Do not regap; replace a plug that is out of spec.
Torque: 18 ± 2 N·m (159 ± 18 lbf·in) per the 2022 to 2026 guides, anti-seize on the threads. Older guides differ by model, so check yours. Ignition coil retaining screw: 9 ± 1 N·m (80 ± 9 lbf·in) per the 2016 to 2026 guides.
Supercharger
There is no scheduled supercharger clutch replacement. The 2016 to 2019 guides call the supercharger maintenance free, with an inspection every 200 hours under intense use. Never replace supercharger components yourself; they are factory balanced.
Coolant and flushing
Check the coolant cold, between MIN and MAX on the expansion tank under the seat. BRP recommends XPS Extended Life premix, alternatively a low-silicate ethylene glycol premix (50/50) for aluminum engines. Replacement is a dealer job per BRP.
Flushing per the 2026 guide: hose on the rear connector, tap closed, start, open the tap right away, idle 90 seconds, close the tap, 5 seconds at 5,000 rpm, stop. Never more than 2 minutes out of the water. Off-season prep: winterizing your Sea-Doo.
Resetting the maintenance reminder with M-JET DIAGNOSTIC
When service is due, the cluster shows MAINTENANCE REQUIRED. The 2016 to 2026 guides state that a person of your choosing may do the maintenance, which includes you. After the service, you reset the reminder with M-JET DIAGNOSTIC.
With M-JET DIAGNOSTIC you can do the service reset yourself: dongle in the diagnostic port, connect via Bluetooth, run the service function. Use a stable power supply and follow the manufacturer's instructions. More in service reset on Sea-Doo, Ski-Doo and Lynx. Then check:
- Read the fault memory and tell active from stored codes.
- Watch the live data: engine temperature, battery voltage, rpm and, on supercharged engines, intake pressure and intake temperature.
- After the plug change, test the ignition coils cylinder by cylinder with the component test.
If an oil pressure warning shows up after the oil change, Sea-Doo oil pressure fault codes helps you sort it out.
Frequently asked questions
How much oil does a Sea-Doo 1630 ACE take?
Per the 2016 to 2026 guides, an oil change with filter takes 3 L (3.2 US qt), NA or supercharged. Afterwards check that the level sits between FULL and ADD on the dipstick.
Can I use fully synthetic oil in a supercharged engine?
In the 2025 and 2026 guides, BRP recommends XPS 5W-40 synthetic for every 1630 ACE. The 2016 to 2018 guides rule out fully synthetic oil for the supercharged 300. As an alternative to XPS oil, supercharged engines need a motorcycle oil compatible with wet clutches.
