Yamaha 1.9 Litre: Knock Sensor (Code 17) and Ignition Timing
On the new 1.9-litre generation a knock sensor monitors combustion. If it reports a fault, M-JET DIAGNOSTIC helps distinguish a sensor problem from real knock.
What you look at
- Code 17 in the fault memory: active or stored?
- Ignition timing under load in the data logger
- Intake air temperature (23) and engine temperature (15)
- Connector and wire of the knock sensor
Evaluation
If ignition timing stays stable and the message comes anyway, the fault is mostly at the wire or connector. If ignition is retarded under load, the control unit detects real knock: fuel quality, temperatures and intake are then to be checked. If real knock is suspected, do not ride on.
