Yamaha VX1100: Limp Mode, RPM Stuck Around 5000
After a few minutes power drops and the RPM stays stuck at around 5000. That sounds like limp mode, and it always has a trigger. M-JET DIAGNOSTIC shows you which one it is on your VX1100.
What you see in the app
- Fault memory: active and stored entries
- Engine temperature (code 15) and intake air temperature (code 23) live
- Throttle valve: ETV, TPS and APS messages
- Oil switch and thermo switch in the switch status
Narrowing down the trigger
Limp mode arises when the control unit rates a value as implausible or dangerous. If it only occurs after 20 to 30 minutes, that fits heat: sensor, cooling water path or voltage under continuous load. If it occurs immediately, an active fault is in the memory. The data logger records which value tips before the drop, so you find the trigger. Also check whether a learner mode (L-mode) or no-wake mode is active, if your model has one: both limit engine speed, and you can see the switch status in the live data. If there is no entry and the values are normal, an oil-soaked air filter housing after an overfilled oil change is also possible; the app cannot detect that.
